Maybelline Superstay 24HR Makeup Foundation.

September 30, 2011 bee. 2 Comments

Maybelline Superstay 24HR. Makeup Foundation in True Beige.
What it does:
  • Stays comfortable and looks naturally flawless all day
  • Micro-Flex formula provides 24-hour wear and no transfer
  • Withstands heat, sweat and humidity
  • Oil-free, dermatologist-tested, fragrance-free
  • Suitable for all skin types
Description from here.
Why I love it:
  • Good coverage. Can be built up for full coverage.
  • Not watery. Not extremely thick.
  • Lasts me all day (7am till the evening!).
  • Withstands heat, sweat, humidity.
  • Not drying. No dry patches. No cakey-ness.
  • Natural look.
  • Affordable. About $10 or less.
  • No breakouts.
  • Easy to blend.

What I don't like:
  • Needs a pump.
  • It feels creamy on the skin. Not necessarily bad, but I prefer the light-weight feel of the Revlon Colorstay foundation compared to this.
  • Oil control is average. You'll blot in a few hours but not to the point of greasiness or anything disgusting.
  • Not available in the Philippines.
  • It almost seem to match my current color but it's still too light for me.

Swatch: Maybelline Superstay 24HR Makeup Foundation in True Beige.

My mom introduced this to me when I was in the Philippines... She sent the shade in NUDE. I even have a picture of this in my old blog, as well! I made a switch from Nude to True Beige when I went home for vacation last October 2010.
This was basically my to-go-to-foundation in the Philippines. When I feel like I want to look flawless, I skipped the BB cream and I would use this back then. I'm oily and I sweat a lot but this stayed on my face all throughout the day. I also used this when I have dance performances, it did not smear or melt during or after. And currently, out of all the foundations I tried here in the U.S. my sisters found no problem with this at all (they're hardcore critics, by the way). Now I think about it, I'm starting to detest my curiosity to try other products... maybe that's why I'm breaking out so bad at the moment.
These were taken when I was doing a review for the Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Liner (read here). I used the Maybelline Superstay foundation to take pictures...

Pictures taken by my sister, Roxx Luzada.

I would definitely repurchase! But in the shade that actually suits me at the moment, of course!

Missha M Perfect Cover B.B Cream

September 27, 2011 bee. 2 Comments

Missha M Perfect Cover B.B Cream
Missha M Perfect Cover B.B Cream offers a novel skincare concept with B.B cream, which lightens skin tone by healing visible wrinkles and blemishes with excellent skin cover ability, and prevents skin aging through effective whitening and anti-wrinkle properties.
Description taken from the product packaging.

It looks more than half empty, missing its cap, and slightly abused because I've had this for awhile now. I got this baby via Girltalk's Beauty Bazaar pre-loved... I even have a post the day I got it in my old blog. I forgot how much I bought it for but I'm pretty sure it wasn't more than 500PHP (or $10). The US Missha site sells it for $29 and according to my trusted ebay seller in the Philippines, it costs 920PHP for this size.

What I Like:
  • Has a pump! Super Hygienic.
  • 50 ML!!! A regular foundation only has 30 ML.
  • The consistency is light and almost watery but will not drip down if you place it on the back of your hand.
  • Moisturizing even without applying moisturizer prior to this.
  • Does not feel heavy the skin at all! Feels like you're not wearing makeup.
  • Medium to almost full coverage with just one pump! No pits, barely any bumps, no lines, and covers my post-acne scars better than foundation (makes it look more natural).
  • My skin tone is improved significantly! I look better instantly!
  • My skin looks brighter and glowing.
  • No cakey-ness at all! Blends in like a dream.
  • SPF 42 PA++.
  • I think my skin became whiter and better when I used this back then.
  • Long-lasting even in the Philippine setting.
  • Your skin but waaaaaaay better look!
What I don't like:
  • The price! I was lucky to buy this, you know. I was online most of the time checking the forums often to see an interesting buy come up. Things like these sell like hot cakes once its out on the market! I got it at a low price and it was almost full! The price provided by my trusted ebay seller is actually not bad in comparison to the price the US Missha site offers! But if you are a student, this may be quite expensive (been there! done that! LOL).
  • The shade! No. 21 is the lightest shade... I'm an NC43! Sadly, my MAC Minirelize Skinfinish isn't dark enough to make this fit the rest of my body at the moment. But I did use this a lot last year when I was really fair (I decided to tan this year).
  • It oxidizes over time. This could be a good thing if you're a little darker than NO. 21... It starts out really white then it will match your skin as minutes pass by (unless you're too tan like me!).
  • The smell. I heard there were many complaints to this strong scent but I actually don't mind.
  • It may cause breakouts. It blends into the skin so well that it looks like second skin but if it is not washed off properly then a break out may occur. Although I never broke out!
  • The white cast in flash photography. Due to its high content of SPF, it reflects white when a flash goes off in pictures.
  • If you have dry patches, it may be emphasized. I never had a problem with this in the Philippines, though.
  • Oil control is average. You'll blot in a few hours but not to the point it gets unbearably greasy and disgusting.

Swatches: Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream in No. 21
When I say oxidize, I meant to say it changes color due to the reaction to your skin.
The light beige creamy substance turns grayish after 30 mins.

Liquid Foundations: Rimmel Vs. Revlon

September 26, 2011 bee. 4 Comments

Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation & Revlon Colorstay Foundation (Oily/Combination Skin).

Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation.
Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 420 Warm Sand.
What it does:
Skin Matching foundation
Unique innovative formula with Smart-Tone technology to mimic your skin tone and texture. Blue sapphire gives truer, fresher colour for a flawless natural finish. SPF 15 sunscreen. Available in 16 different shades for all skin tones!
Price: $7 (depends which drugstore you purchase this from)
Description taken from here.

What I like: This foundation has SPF 15 & medium coverage which can be built up to full coverage. I luckily picked the shade that suits my skin color well! It doesn't dry quickly, giving you time to blend it out before it sets itself as it is. It doesn't cake up and has a dewy finish. No need for a powder foundation on top! Just a translucent setting powder would finish it off. I didn't break out from this and I think the staying powder is quite good. And finally, it doesn't accentuate my pores. And oh, the packaging is in a level better than the usual squeeze tube but it still needs a pump for better control.

What I don't like: Unfortunately, the claim to "mimic your skin tone and texture" is totally off. The foundation is quite thick and gives the feel of wearing makeup (I used to hate makeup because the way foundation feels on my face). It also doesn't dry up in a sense that it looks dewy because it is wet/tacky even after you blend it in. Using a translucent setting powder may help this out. I don't recommend anyone to use a powder foundation on top of it because the makeup will feel heavier than it already is and will definitely give you that heavy look. This is not for people with oily skin, the dewy effect may look greasy later on and you will need to blot off the oil. Personally, I think this is fine for my oily skin here in the US but I'm not quite sure it will do well if I use this in the Philippines (high humidity). My sisters commented that the foundation looks like it was slapped on my face... It doesn't blend so well and may literally look like its just sitting on your face if used without proper blending. I noticed I still could see some of my bumps, a few fine lines, and the darkest post-acne marks on my face.

All in all, this foundation may be fine for those with dry skin and likes the "somewhat masked look" and definitely not a great idea for everyday use nor for the natural look, at all. And I would definitely not repurchase again... I'll save up my money for the good stuff instead! :)

Revlon Colorstay Foundation (Oily/Combination Skin).
Revlon Colorstay Foundation (Oily/Combination Skin) in 340 Early Tan.
What it does:
Provides lightweight comfort, so you feel like you’re not wearing makeup. Looks fresh for up to 16 hours. Specially formulated for combination or oily skin, this oil-free formula helps control shine all day and gives you flawless looking skin. Makeup looks fresh and feels great for up to 16 hours thanks to the lightweight, comfortable feel from the SoftFlex ColorStay™ formula. Medium to full coverage, with SPF 6 protection*.
Price: $10

 Description taken from here.

What I like: The coverage is medium to full. It has SPF 6. It feels light on the face and finishes matte. It does lasts a whole day I am in school (about 9 hours). And great for extremely oily skin and for those who live in humid places.

What I don't like: It is drying and cakes up on my face! You have to apply it quickly at one area at a time because it dries up really fast. And the consistency is so much like water that if you put it at the back of your hand, prior to application to your face, it will drip down. And the packaging is  really bad since it has no pump to dispense the product which then makes it hard to control how much you're going to take out. I noticed that it seems to sink in my pores, making them a little visible, and showed most of my bumps along with a lot of fine lines.   My sister said this was even worse than the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation because it made me look more fake, like a clown and plain terrible when applied as is. But when I did use it out, I had to spray on facial mists & buff it out so many times to get the texture nice but that never really solved the problem completely. I also bought this in the wrong shade and so I had to use my MAC Mineral Skinfinish Natural to make this match the rest of my body. Finally, it's also quite pricey for a drugstore foundation.

Basically, I am disappointed. It would probably work in the Philippines but not here! I was really looking forward to this foundation because so many people raved about it and I heard it was sort of a dupe for the MAC Studiofix Fluid (which I'm dying to try now). Anyways, I won't repurchase unless I'm in the Philippines and it works for me there (in a different shade, of course!) I'll probably try the formulation for the Dry/Normal Skin and see if its any good since this foundation was just really too drying for my oily face.

Swatches: Rimmel London Perfecting Foundation in 420 Warm Sand & Revlon Colorstay in 340 Early Tan.
Despite the shortcoming of both the foundations, I am trying my best to love them! Yes, even if it means I need to spritz on more facial mist than the usual and keep buffing away the cakey-ness! I really don't want to waste money... Both foundations seem fine on camera (thankfully!). I usually use BB Cream on daily basis when I go out anyways!
-----------------

I went to Sephora the other week and tried the NARS foundation... I was amazed! It was so light and fixed my complexion even if it was just one layer! Right there and then, I realized the difference between drugstore and department store brands! I'll definitely save up for something better but I'll still keep a lookout for treasures in the drugstores! :)

E.L.F. Studio Line Powder Brush

September 25, 2011 bee. 0 Comments

E.L.F's Studio Line Powder Brush
Product Desrciption:
This new anti bacterial, synthetic haired Taklon brush is softer and more absorbent and can be used with wet or dry products. Be a professional makeup artist and create a flawless look with this e.l.f. studio brush!
-Creates a professional sculpted look
-Full coverage color
-Use for powder or blush for perfect contouring
*Vegan Friendly
Price: $3
Description taken from here.

This very dense flat top brush does not shed, bleed, nor does it hurt my face! The bristles are soft yet firm and is able to maintain its original shape even after washing it a few times. As the description stated, this brush definitely may be used for both powder and liquid foundation! I've used it with my Rimmel liquid foundation and it did great for "Stippling" to a flawless finish!  It can pick up a lot of product for full coverage without much effort, as well. And finally, the product itself looks very chic and far from a stereotypical cheap-product-look!

What I don't like about this brush? Nothing really... with an exception to when I pat it too strong against my compact powders which then causes a mess.
E.L.F. Studio Line Powder Brush on my MAC Skinfinish Natural.
But then again, that would be my fault for not being gentle when I know it can pick up so much already with a much lesser force!

Basically! I love this brush! You get a great quality chic brush for just $3!
Would I repruchase?
I definitely would for reasons of when this brush eventually breaks down or when I decide to do other people's makeup.

I think this is available in the Philippines at SM Malls. Unfortunately, the prices are jacked up to approximately 300PHP or more (for the E.L.F Studio Line). Despite the huge price inflation, I would definitely buy this over the 900PHP Barenaturals brush I bought back then! That brush never felt it was worth the price since the beginning... But what did I know? I was a newbie makeup lover back then who was so obsessed on getting herself a really good Stippling Brush! I spent a major portion of my allowance just to buy that piece of trash back then! All you students out there, you feel me right???! HAHA. Click here to read what happened to that brush after 9 months of special treatment and being rarely used.

If I was mistaken about its availability in SM beauty sections, there are online shops in the Philippines that have this either on-hand or for pre-order.  Just check multiply sites & ebay, I saw a bunch when I was in the Philippines. ^_^

I hope you guys like my pictures! I've started taking my own product shots with my own camera (its not a dslr like my sister's)! I definitely hope I am improving my blogging skills... TEEHEE!

Till the next post!

Drugstore Haul

September 19, 2011 bee. 8 Comments

So these are a bunch of stuff I've picked up at different drugstores and at different times the past two weeks...

Revlon Photoready Foundation in 010 Caramel.
Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Combination/Oily Skin in 340 Early Tan.
Revlon Photoready Concealer in Deep.
My skin is at its worst state lately and I thought to myself that I must get something to cover it all up! I thought about getting myself more MAC stuff but I've read and heard so many raves about Revlon's foundation line (being a great substitute for MAC) and I was at the drugstore anyways... so I made myself grab for it before I get more than extremely late in the "Revlon craze".

ELF Eyebrow Kit in Medium
Wet n Wild Brow & Eye Liner in Dark Brown.
Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown.

My eyebrows have been bothering me for awhile now. I know its quite thick but it grows long and seems to have a mind of it own. I decided to trim it up for better control... all I needed was a good new eyebrow product to simulate perfect eyebrows.

Select Lash.
Select Lash.
I've never really tried lashes before, so I thought these would be fine for practice. Just 99 cents each! Not bad, right? They look pretty decent, in my opinion.

ELF Brushes: Concealer Brush, Studio Line Contour Brush, (2) Blending Eye Brush, & (2) Eyeshadow Brush.
ELF Brush Shampoo.
Finally, I got quite a few ELF brushes... They're $1 each except for the black one which is only $3. I needed more eye brushes because I realized I didn't have any. I may have forgotten my old ones in the Philippines. And the Brush Shampoo caught my eye as I was scanning the ELF section. I thought it would be good for all my brushes...

That's the end of my drugstore haul. Please bear in mind they were bought not all at the same time... I just thought its better to just get them all out in one post. I will hopefully do reviews on all of them soon...

Thanks for the time!

Cherry Culture & Sephora Haul

September 16, 2011 bee. 0 Comments

My sister & I hauled quite a bit the past weeks... I'm so into blogging right now thus the desire to haul! Anyways, I thought I'd share with you all what we picked up and this could give you an idea what's coming up here in my little blog.

My older sister received a debit card for passing the NCLEX from one of my dad's co-workers in our latest party... She thoughtfully decided to spend the money on NYX items from cherryculture.com for our own use and my blog! And what was really sweet of her to do was that she ordered everything to suit an NC43, like me! Awwwww! How nice of her, right? She's an NC35, by the way.

NYX JUMBO PENCILS

NYX LIPSTICKS

NYX BLUSHES
I promise to get all these swatched, so all you tan (NC43) ladies can check out if these would really suit you.

-----------------------------------
So, my sisters and I went to the mall one day and went in our local Sephora... I dropped almost 1/3 of my birthday money from my parents in purchasing the folowing... And yes, this is my first Sephora haul!

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Original.
I picked this up because I felt like my Dollface eyeshadows need more staying power. I have the 88 palletes, so you can imagine how small the pots of eyeshadows are! I would like one one pat of the eyeshadow and get the color I see on the pot itself.

Amazing Cosmetics' Amazing Concealer in Tan Golden (with freebie Anti-Aging Face Primer).
Since I'm breaking out really bad at the moment and no skincare product is helping me out, my sisters prodded me to get a good concealer. So I asked the sales lady for her recommendations and I landed with this. Actually, she also mentioned the concealer from Smashbox because she said its quite popular as well. But we didn't have time to check it out, so I stuck to this.

Evian Natural Mineral Water Facial Spray (2 To Go)
I've been meaning to get a facial mist, one from MAC or what not, due to some of the patchiness on my face. And it just so happens that this was sitting right at the counter! I used this before and its pretty awesome! The atomizer spritzes really fine water particles which makes it essential for a good facial mist and a non-cakey makeup look.

I actually still have a drugstore haul to share with you all, so stay tuned for that!
I guess you can really same I am really pumped up to get this blog going for all of my lovely readers...

Thanks for checkin' my blog out!

MAC HAUL & REVIEW

September 10, 2011 bee. 0 Comments

For those who've followed me way back at my old blog probably know I am such a frugal person. I'd go for the drugstore brands or go really crazy over blog/forum sales (via GirlTalk) just because I was a student and get all my finances for such purchases from my meager allowance! LOL.

My first MAC purchases were the Mineralized Skin Finish Natural in Medium Dark and the Paint Pot in Barestudy. The paint pot is somewhere lying around in my collection and I've cleaned out the MSFN because I've been using it religiously ever since I got it! Luckily, I've received a $50 gift card for Macy's from a generous friend of my parents during the graduation party my sister and I had about 2 months ago! For those who don't know, Macy's is a huge department store which sell high-end cosmetics such as M.A.C.

Once I decided to finally use the gift card, I headed directly to the MAC area. Immediately, I asked to be color-matched to the Studiofix Powder Plus Foundation... Why? My mom and sisters are long-time users of the powder while I was away in the Philippines struggling with whatever I had that time (I never stuck to one thing too long until I bought my first pre-loved MSFN) and so I opted to get the same. At the same time, my little sister said that the powder is great for just everyday use.

To make the long story short, NC45 was too dark for me and NC42 was too light for me which led me to the color in between, NC43! Then I decided to get another Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep, as well.

Studiofix Powder Plus Foundation.
A one-step application of foundation and powder. Gives skin a smooth, flawless, all-matte, full-coverage finish. Long-wearing: lasts for up to eight hours. A real all-in-one. The choice of pros, and a long time favourite of M∙A∙C fans.

15 g / .52 oz | US$26.50
This powder foundation has the best coverage! By the way, I've been breaking out like crazy lately due to unknown reasons... Think really bumpy skin, huge red pimples, and big time scarring with some pits. Sounds bad right? Well, it is! But with even just this powder, about 98% of my problems disappear! It also does fairly well in controlling oil and last a pretty long time (the whole time I'm at school which is about 10 hours). I've heard complaints of this breaking people out, but that doesn't really concern me since I'm breaking out prior to even buying this product.

Overall: I love it! Its amazing how this product works to get my skin really smooth-looking! Worth the price since I haven't experienced any lower-end powder foundations do so much even just by itself! The fact that it is a powder foundation, it makes it great for everyday use when I want flawless skin!

Because of this product, I'm more that willing to try more from the Studiofix line like the Studiofix Fluid and even the concealer! I'm getting excited to buy those and give you guys a review! Teehee.

Mineralized Skinfinish Natural.
A luxurious domed face powder with minerals, slowly baked to provide a dimensional yet natural-matte finish. Provides perfect low coverage. Use to set and fix foundation or as a touch-up throughout the day.

10 g / 0.35 US oz  |  US$27.00
As I've said in my old post about this... Don't expect very good coverage with this powder because its definitely not made for that. Wondering whats the point of this product since this doesn't provide any coverage at all? Well, I've got a bunch of BB Creams waiting to be used up and I have tanned a lot the past year. But this powder powder finally made my BB Creams wearable again! Not only does it come in a shade that would match my tan skin, it feels so natural on the skin and doesn't become cakey at all. It also has the ability to even out my skin tone! The finish of this looks dewy because it looks like it has some sheen to it.

Overall: It is kind of pricey for the coverage it brings, but it is a very beautiful baked product! I would repurchase just because I have a lot of BB Creams to go through and I don't know any other powder that could give me the same result as this does. And oh, I simply love how it looks on my skin!

I've accidentally told the lady to grab the wrong shade to this. I thought what I had last time was Medium Deep, but what I actually had previously was Medium Dark. It's all good though! I feel like Medium Dark (the darker shade) was a little too tan and maybe a little muddy-looking. And so, I'm quite happy with the lighter shade I have at the moment.

---------------
Here's another picture of my little sister and I from our trip to Pismo Beach...

We're both wearing our own shades of the Studiofix Powder Plus Foundation. She's an NC42 and I'm an NC43! She can't believe I'm actually darker than her now... so sad. But its alright! Sunny California loves the tan anyways! I know you could probably see bumps on our faces but you can't expect any foundation to visually flatten those bumps especially if its huge like the ones I have! I am seriously contemplating getting the Studiofix concealer or any other great concealer to reduce the appearance of the bumps to a better extent.

By the way, both products didn't add up to exactly $50! I had to pay about $8 more, but that didn't bother me much. And oh! In the Philippines, the Studiofix Powder Plus Foundation costs a shocking 1,700PHP!  I'm not so sure about the MSFN's price in the Philippines, but I bought my old one barely used at 500PHP.

Anyways, I'd like to read suggestions what powder foundations or concealers (high-end or low-end) you swear by... It would definitely give me options for my next purchase!

Thanks for reading!

Labor Day at Pismo Beach

September 09, 2011 bee. 2 Comments

Hey guys!

I've been pretty busy lately because I went back to school! I know I'm over and done with it but my parents insisted I go back to avoid falling in the pit of boredom and depression while waiting to take the Nursing Board Exam. It's just a bunch of Psychology classes & a Photography class... Basically, just for fun!

Anyways, ever since I came back to America, my family would go somewhere every once in a while to eat and enjoy the day... And just this past Labor Day (Sept. 5), we've gone down south ya'll!

Here's my little sister and I on the car being bored. LOL.

unedited pic. we like how our skin turned out! :D

Before walking around, its time to eat!

THAI Restaurant.

Some of our food...

tofu & veggie soup.

salmon dish.

pineapple curry.

menu cover.
We found this restaurant on our way to Pismo Beach via Yelp. It had great reviews about its delicious food and I agree with that. The taste may need a little spicing up but I think it is enough for those who aren't used to eating spicy food. The problem is that for the price, the quantity doesn't match up. Well, that's in comparison to the wonderful places my older sister and I have eaten at when we were at Chicago, IL. Then again, its California where the taxes are ridiculous and the fact that this restaurant is so close to the main reason why we've come to the location anyways.... In other words, the serving size was a little small than expected.

Before heading out to the beach, my little sister and I ventured out on checking out the shops nearby. So, we went in this store called HOTLIX. It sold the salt water taffy, lollipops, fudge, and basically all the sweets you could think of.... but they offer more than that!

PLAIN WORMS.
PLAIN SCORPIONS & CHOCOLATE-COATED CRICKETS.

You're eyes aren't fooling you... they actually sell real worms, crickets, maggots, & scorpions to eat! Have it plain or chocolate coated or even on an apple smothered with caramel, they sell it! I didn't take so much pictures because I wasn't too sure if it was allowed. Sorry! And NO! We did not partake any of those "edible" stuff... but we have bought fudge, yogurt-coated pretzels, and chocolate malt balls instead, thank you very much! LOL.

And finally, Pismo Beach!

People were sunbathing, jogging around, swimming, hanging about, fishing, and surfing! Such a lovely place, indeed! So peaceful unlike Santa Cruz Beach Board Walk up north!

on the wharf.

A bird keeping watch over the tourists. LOL.
We basically passed our time enjoying the breeze and watching the surfers ride the waves and get crushed by them while singing The Muppet's song "WIPEOUT". LOL.

As the sun was rapidly setting.
By the way, I'd like to say its been such a waste going to beaches and not being geared up for it... Oh well! We definitely love Pismo Beach! We plan on chilling back there to soak up some sun, play volleyball and learn how to surf, perhaps? Who knows! LOL.

----------------------------------------------

I've tried a new product for my face that day. My sisters were long time users of such and I can't wait to give a proper review on it! Please also be on a look out for the other Urban Decay product which I have yet to share with you all. Ohh yeah, I also cut my hair again! Just the bangs, though! Since the weather permits it, I'm so keen on growing the rest of my hair really long! Teehee.

Till next time, lovely people!
